I’m excited to start our new format for the  Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-8pm time slot.
Book Club!  We’ll be doing more than just reading these inspirational art filled books.  We’ll be practicing the techniques we find on the pages.

Tuesday night will focus on the book:  Metal Effects by Cheryl Darrow

Metal EffectsLearn to work with art metal (40 gauge aluminum or copper)  using tools and texture plates.

Make extraordinary pieces for decorating your life.  Metal is easy to work with yielding beautiful results with a minimal amount of effort.  Weekly we will practice different techniques from the book and look forward to a visit from Cheryl herself at the end of January.  Cheryl is teaching here in our studio on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31 2009.  She will offer 3 classes 2 times each over these two days.  It will be the special privilege of book club members to spend some private time with Cheryl during her stay.

Each book club session will be $15 and includes metal for a make-and-take project.  Click here to register for any or all of the January Meetings

Thursday night will focus on the book:  Collage Unleashed by Traci Bautista

collageunleashed1Having Traci here in the studio in November inspired this whole book club thing into existance.  The book Collage Unleashed is full of techniques that have added  new dimension to my personal art.  I know those who attended Traci’s workshops feel the same.  There is something so freeing in her style.  We, as a group, will continue to explore and experiment with the techniques she shares in her book.  There is also an online yahoo group already set up for people who love the style   http://groups.yahoo.com/group/collageUNLEASHED/

Each session will be $15 with an optional supplies fee of $10 (bring your own paper and paints to have the supplies fee waived)  Click here to register for any or all of the January and February sessions.

Register now, space is limited to 10  memebers in each club.

December First?? Oh my! How did this happen?? Well, like it or not, we’re sliding into the end of 2008. I have to admit, I love this time of year. The cold mornings make it feel so good snuggling down with a hot cup and my “stuff”

Thankful? I am so incredibly thankful and blessed to have the best business partner in the whole world, the most supportive family ever and the most creative and inspiring community here.

Now, on to the business at hand.

This week in the studio we are:

SOLDERING: memory glass slides (Tues Dec 2nd)Add the special silver metal finish to mini glass slides. Learn this technique and you will be able to MAKE! dozens of gifts from tiny bits of beautiful paper. Imagine the customizing possibilities. It all starts with one incredibly simple technique. Join us Tuesday night at 7pm to learn the basics and get certified to use the soldering equipment anytime you want to in the studio.

PAINTED BACKGROUNDS: img_0687(Wed Dec 3rd) Having Traci Bautista here was an inspiring experience. I just can’t get enough painted paper backgrounds. This evening will be a self-indulgent night of adding texture through dyeing paper towels and scraping paint. If you are even a little bit curious plan come in and check out what we’re up to. Wednesday night at 7pm we’ll each have our own table to spread out on. I’ll have a dip dye station set up and all the paper towels you need. I’ll even have gloves for those worried about their manicure.

PMC: pmc(Thurs Dec 4th) Did you know that you can MAKE! your own 99% pure SILVER jewelry, pendants, charms and more? Precious Metal Clay is microscopic silver particles suspended in an organic binder. The consistency of clay, this material is easy to roll out and press texture into using stamps and other tools. Make your pieces and we’ll fire them and have them ready for you within a week. Your class fee covers your studio time and firing fee. Materials fee is based on the current price of silver ($45/20g) Thursday night from 7-8:30pm

Saturday and Sunday (December 6 & 7) is our HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA

There is still a couple of spaces. It is an incredible value at $75 you get an entire weekend of crafting/scrapbooking time. The goody bag that comes with your registration is worth well over $75 itself. PLUS we are having a silent auction to raise money for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
